Dani's Foundation and Brighton High School National Honor Society
On March 12, 2014 BHS National Honor Society presented a check in the amount of $2200.47 to Michele Ashby, the President and Founder of Dani’s Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and finding a cure for Pediatric Sarcoma, a prominent cancer among children. The Brighton Chapter of National Honor Society created the Mr. BHS Pageant in order to raise funds for this charity. In total, the 12 participants raised more than $2000 for the cause. Caden Pratt raised the most money, earning him the title of Mr. BHS.
“I am so honored to be the first Mr. BHS, but I am more blessed to say that I was part of such a good cause in raising money for children with cancer,” said Pratt.
The idea behind this event was to get as many senior boys as possible to participate. No one expected to raise so much money in one week, so the NHS officers were excited with the results.
“It was amazing to see the entire school come together for a good cause,” said Kaitlin Chapman (‘14), NHS President. “I am so proud of my fellow officers for making Mr. BHS so successful. I would also like to thank Mrs. Gustad and Mrs. Hoel. We never would have been able to accomplish this without their support.”
Michele Ashby was on hand at Brighton High School to receive the check from the NHS Officers and the Mr. BHS contestants.
“Thank you so much for your continued support for Dani’s Foundation and for keeping the students involved in our mission. It is their peer group who are mostly affected by Ewing’s Sarcoma and so it is really appreciated that they are helping others that they may never even know,” said Ashby.
Michele Ashby is also the mother of Dani, the young woman in whose name the charity began.
“Dani would have loved this. She wanted to be a fashion designer, so this event would have been right up her alley!” said Ashby. “You are such a special group of young men and women, and it is my honor to accept this check on behalf of Dani’s Foundation.”
