Important Contest Dates:
______________________________________________________________________________ CHSAA requires that every student-athlete meet the minimum academic requirements in order to participate in high school athletics. Participation in interscholastic activities as a part of a school’s educational program is a privilege and not a right. In order that you understand these rules, they are described below. (Please contact the Athletic Department for additional information.) 1. Students wishing to participate are required to meet standards of personal behavior and academic performance which are related to school purposes. 2. District 27J student-athletes may have only (1) failing grade and must be passing a minimum of (5) classes to maintain eligibility. Students who are not passing a minimum of (5) classes or have more than (1) failing grade when grades are checked for eligibility (once a week on Thursdays) are ineligible for the next full week (Monday - Saturday). Coaches may have stricter academic standards for their programs, but must have the policy approved by the District Athletic Director and have the policy listed in their team handbook. 3. Regaining academic eligibility- Students must pass and earn credit for minimum of (5) classes in each semester to be eligible at the start of the next semester. Students who do not earn five (5) passing credits in a semester will be ineligible until the date set by CHSAA for regaining athletic eligibility. TEN GUARANTEES ALL COACHES OWE EVERY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE (CHSSA) 1. Some individual time. 2. Encouragement – regardless of the athlete’s level of ability. 3. A reasonable opportunity to compete. 4. TOP NOTCH ROLE MODELING – from grooming and dress to behavior and ethics in general. 5. The absence of foul language. 6. Assistance and guidance with personal problems that arise in every young person’s life. 7. A well-structured athletic environment, from practices to actual competition days. 8. Recognition for the contributions each athlete has made to the team. 9. DISCIPLINE! FAIR, FIRM, AND CONSISTENT. 10. The right to have a high school career not consumed by the “year round” single sport mentality. It is very important to me and our coaches that we run a program that is the very best and puts our students first. The Colorado High School Activities Association promotes participating in high school sports with CLASS. Commitment, Loyalty, Academic, Sportsmanship. With that in mind, I encourage communication and feedback on any issue regarding our Bulldog Athletic Program. While I would be happy to discuss any issue that concerns our program, please try to observe the following steps in addressing an issue or concern: PARTICIPANT/PARENT ê COACH /SPONSOR ê ATHLETIC DIRECTOR ê PRINCIPAL Sports Physicals Help Support BHS Sports Medicine Team and Athletics For information contact Leslie Tufano, ATC at 303-655-4253 N.C.A.A. INFORMATION Athletes who are considering participating in athletics at an N.C.A.A. member school in college must meet N.C.A.A. Eligibility Standards, and must be registered with the N.C.A.A. through the NCAA Eligibility Center (www.eligibilitycenter.org). The governing body of college sports, the N.C.A.A. requires that students take specific courses before they can participate in athletics at the college level. Additionally depending on student's G.P.A., the student is required to achieve a certain point total for either the A.C.T. or S.A.T. Students are informed regularly to see their counselor to make sure they are taking the appropriate courses. Parents and students can check both the student handbook and/or the course handbook for details. Guidance Counselors are ready to assist the student/athlete. Failure to follow the plan specified by the N.C.A.A. will result in the student being denied the chance to take part in the college’s athletic program.
